July 2022 Disability Pride NYC Parade Postponed until Fall 2022

Dear Disability Community,

We are writing to update you on the status of the 2022 Disability Pride NYC Parade. This year’s DPNYC Parade that was scheduled for July 10, 2022, will be postponed to a date in the Fall.

The DPNYC Board is under new leadership; Elisabeth Axel was elected President after Mike LeDonne, who led the organization as President for the past ten years has recently resigned from that position.

Due to the ongoing restructuring and reorganizing of DPNYC and the recent uptick of COVID-19 in New York City, the Board has decided to postpone the Parade from July 10 to the Fall of 2022.

Our goal is to have an event with a high level of community participation while helping people stay safe as we celebrate and showcase our creativity. For questions or to join us in planning for the Fall, contact Elisabeth Axel at [email protected].

We will inform you as soon as the new date for the Fall 2022 Parade is finalized.

2020 Disability Pride NYC Parade is Cancelled due to COVID 19

We are very sad to announce that after studying all the information about coronavirus and checking with the Mayor’s Office and other professionals, the DPNYC Board has voted unanimously that, due to the extreme risk to the health and safety of this community caused by COVID 19, there was no other choice other than cancel the 2020 Disability Pride NYC Parade.

Even if by some miracle the number of infected were to begin to subside this summer, due to social distancing, the virus will still be out there and once people start to go out again they can get sick again. There are also reports predicting a possible phase 2 of the virus come fall so simply rescheduling the parade was not an option.

This was the hardest decision we have ever had to make but the safety of the disability community is always our first concern.

The parade will be back next year bigger, stronger, and more joyful than ever so don’t lose those smiling faces and please stay safe!

2019 Disability Pride Parade: SUNDAY JULY 14th

Let your Star Shine and participate in our CREATIVITY theme at this year’s parade. Costumes, floats, hats, T-shirts, wheelchairs etc… are all encouraged. Let your imagination run wild. There will be awards handed out for the most creative ideas.
